Relegation?? Really???

We don't need to go down to clear the decks and rebuild. We just need the cunting owners to open their wallets and improve the squad instead of hoping to tread water each season

The only positive for me would be more home games kicking off at 3 PM on a Saturday.

there are no positives from going down

Re: Negatives of relegation
YES we will have to clear the decks, lose our talented players (not a huge loss based on today) and start again with a hungry young team. All very well until you realize that it’ll be the third time in 15 years that we are repeating this cycle. Supposing we do come back and do well? How long before the fuck ups bad luck and mis management come back to plague us yet again?

We will never be a next level team with this set up. You have to have ruthless owners who will do what’s necessary re: attracting the right management and players, to see the bigger picture and be willing to throw the money require to get them to where they want to be.

That’s what spurs have done. As much as I despise them they are the model that clubs should follow to succeed.

Love the Championship me. What's the point of being a small fish in a big pond when you can't stay afloat. We've got as much chance of winning something in the Championship, as we have in the Premier League.

If we had positive owners, then my opinion might change, but with these pricks in charge, they get what they deserve.

Clearly it's mental to think it could be a good thing, but if we did go down, I can see where Andy is coming from in terms of clearing decks and gathering together a young, hungry team and build up.

However, you are forgetting who run the club. We would not be looking at young managers with fresh ideas, who would want to build something special, like Wagner at Huddersfield as just one example.

We will be looking at the usual suspects, and in truth, they'd probably keep the dinosaur cunt they've just employed, as he'll be excused of the blame if we do drop, just like the last 5 years of failure in his career have not be his fault. And we'd be signing 'proven quality' to get us back up. All that old claptrap.

No negatives.

Win some games
Play the youngsters
50,000 full house

It’s all good.

I guess it's just a matter of opinion. Like a lot of people here I pay over £1,000 a year for my ticket, and actually dread seeing us play the Liverpools / Spurs / Man City's / Man Utd's because you just know we'll ship 4 or 5 goals

Well that's you, personally I prefer being in a league where we're expected to lose certain games, but win against the odds- nothing beats that. Besides, I remember you posting constant negativity, but strange from someone that can't see the negative in relegation

i can't believe this is even a question...it'd be disastrous to get relegated...just don't get this at all!!

Re: Negatives of relegation
Relegation with UP as our home was bearable. The OS will be an embarrassment in the fizzy pop. I went to see a game at yankee stadium with a handful of day tripper fans peppering a vast half closed stadium, the “real” fans section drowned out by the vast emptiness. The future would be bleak, we do not want this to happen.

It's the first step on the downward path to oblivion.

We might not take the remaining ones, but I'd rather we didn't take even one.

Re: Negatives of relegation
TBH I'd rather watch us struggle in the Prem than what has happened the last couple of times we have been in the Chumpionship.

We are everyone's cup final, all teams came to UP and parked the bus, if they scored it was a bonus and gave them something to hang on to, and every point was celebrated by opposition fans and players like a win at Wembley.

Both times we have scrapped back via the play-offs, not via automatic promotion like a proper big club like Newcastle.

Re: Negatives of relegation
I think some on here are thinking that we will come out of the London Stadium if we go down. You think the board are going to get us another ground. No we are just going to rattle around in the ground we have. The more time we spend out of the Championship the less people there will be, the less the atmosphere and so on. The club could totally go out of business is that what you want?

Re: Negatives of relegation
It's the assumption you're making that we'll just magically clean house, turn it around and come right back up in double quick time.

I also dread the games against the likes of Man City and Liverpool, but all day long, you'd still want to be in the premier league over the championship. You're always only a change of manager or a transfer window or two away from being able to improve.

If people think these owners aren't going to do enough for us in the top division, they certainly aren't going to all of a sudden spend 50-60 million when we're in the Championship to overhaul the squad with the quality needed.

Re: Negatives of relegation
In the olden days you could go down and regroup and come back stronger like we did in the late 70’s.
These days with the teams listed including recent league champions like Leeds & Blackburn and European cup winners like Villa and Forest there is a chance of falling into the abyss.
The ABYSS of SHIT
Of the 3 teams that went down last season Boro are clinging onto a playoff place and are already 10 Pts off automatic promotion , Hull are 20th and Sunderland are stone cold motherless last and have just set a club record of not winning any of their last 20 home league games.

That said the football is more interesting as every team is competitive unlike the PL where 6 decent teams toy with 14 also rans.

Personally I see no harm in going down, selling most of our dross and replacing them with young, hungry players. I wonder if Villa would rather be dossing about with Micah Richards at centre half getting hit for 6 and booed off the pitch every week, or are they actually enjoying being in a league where they have a fighting chance, with a team of young hungry players.

I don't think people believe relegation is the end of the world, just because that's what the Sky era tell us to believe. Some things are more important that money, like taking your kids over to West Ham, and watching the joy on their face when we score a goal.

Andy,

The negative is there's no guarantee we'll return in our lifetime, and we'll slowly become more and more insignificant. Not hard to imagine for those with two braincells
